Short codes

They are significantly shorter than full mobile numbers, and therefore are easier to read and remember than normal mobile numbers. As opposed to full mobile numbers, they allow mobile payments.

Short Codes are country-specific. Unfortunately “Pan-european” Short Codes do not exist.

A Luxembourg Short Code for example, will be accessible to the clients of any mobile operators based in Luxembourg. When this “client” is on French territory, he can still send/receive SMS to a Luxembourg Short Code (as long as “roaming agreements” exist between both national and foreign mobile operators this will work). The client of a French mobile operator however will not be able to send Premium SMS to a Luxembourg Short Code, even if he is physically on Luxembourg territory.

Shared Short Codes

These Short Codes are shared between several mpulse clients. Compared to Dedicated Short Codes, Shared Short Codes offer lower setup and monthly fees. To distribute the incoming SMS between different mpulse clients, mpulse uses “Keywords”.

Dedicated Short Codes

Enjoy exclusive usage of a Short Code. They allow you to avoid involving your brand-name with others and to run a large number of applications on it.

Keyword

When a mobile phone sends the text « abc hello » via SMS to a Shared Short Code, the mpulse client that reserved the keyword « abc » will receive that message.

Dynamic Keyword

Traditional keywords must appear at the beginning of the SMS. If the user types the keyword with a spelling mistake, does not leave a space (or nothing) after the keyword, or does leave a space before the keyword, the SMS will not be transmitted to the mpulse client.

A dynamic keyword is a formula (called « regular expression ») that will search the keyword within the text of the SMS. With dynamic keywords, the word sent via SMS may be anywhere in the text of the SMS, or even entered with a common typo or spelling mistake.

Keyword sessions

With keyword sessions, the first SMS containing the keyword activates a direct link between the mobile phone user and the mpulse client. Thereafter, even if SMS don’t start with “abc”, the “abc” client will receive all SMS sent from that mobile phone to the Short Code in question during a pre-determined amount of time.

Premium MO (mobile originated) Short Code

Mobile consumers are billed when they send an SMS to you (your service or application).

“MO” stands for “Mobile Originated” - in other words when the origin of the SMS is the mobile phone.

They are used for on-demand services.

Premium MT (mobile terminated) Short Code

The payment is initiated when you send an SMS to the mobile consumer.

“MT” stands for “Mobile Terminated” - in other words when the SMS ends-up (terminates) on the mobile phone.

They are ideal for subscription-based services.
